Compressed air is the pivot in the drive of many machines and processes in, for example, packing stations and sorting units. The use of compressed air provides an enormous explosion of power in processes, which is virtually irreplaceable by any other application.

Compressed air as a drive for machines and processes

By means of a compressor, air is compressed to a certain pressure. When air is compressed, the molecules start moving faster, which increases the temperature. This phenomenon is called compression heat. Compression literally forces the air into a smaller space, bringing the molecules closer together. 

The energy released in the process is equal to the energy needed to force the air into the smaller space. In other words, the energy is stored for later use. For example, think of a balloon that "flies away" as soon as it is punctured. 

Using compressed air efficiently

"Is compressed air already in place?" is one of the first questions we will ask you. By thinking about this early on, we can provide a more efficient compressed air solution in many cases. For example, we may be able to supply one large, frequency-controlled compressor, rather than a number of smaller compressors. The advantage is that this eliminates a mix of piping and different compressors, which often involve greater maintenance and costs. The result is a more professional and reliable process. 

When dealing with a larger compressor park, an AFX Compressor Controller offers a solution to save energy by efficiently controlling the compressors. By linking the AFX Controllers of each compressor in the fleet, they are aware of the status of each other. Together, they can then determine which compressor should be switched on or off.

In addition, we always recommend installing a backup compressor so that you are not dependent on one large compressor. If there is a malfunction or a defect, the backup compressor can immediately take over the process, which ensures that you will not run out of compressed air. This is important for safeguarding business continuity and offers entrepreneurs peace of mind.

By setting up a compressed air line, we can supply compressed air for the various processes present. For this reason, additional equipment is often required, in the form of filters and adsorption driers or freeze driers, to remove oil and water from the compressed air.
