Expansion system

The Presscon Hornit is a nitrogen expansion system for horizontal storage tanks. The system regulates the air pressure that prevails in these tanks and, for example, the associated heating system. The Hornit system creates a nitrogen blanket in horizontal storage tanks and regulates the pressure of this nitrogen blanket within a range of 800 mbar to 2000 mbar (higher pressure possible on request).

How does the Presscon Hornit work?

The system consists of a nitrogen generator with an air compressor, a set of pressure sensors that measure the water level and pressure at the top of a buffer tank, a vacuum overpressure protector for the buffer tank, and a control module that controls the nitrogen generator. 

The Hornit units are deliberately built open, without a cabinet for the interior. This choice allows easy access for maintenance and also ensures that investment costs for the end user are reduced. Although our standard expansion systems range in production capacity from 1 m³ to 18 m³ of 99% nitrogen gas per hour, we can also design and build custom nitrogen plants for a variety of industrial applications, with capacities up to 1,000 m³ of nitrogen gas per hour (higher pressures possible per request).
